As simple as his name is, Chi is far from being one. Chi is a dynamic person whose passion for what he cares for and what he loves is over the top. A true artist, not just in his medium but also in life. He humbly started doing what he loves, and in that journey found ways to make ends meet. It’s not all about doing what you want to do, it’s about the experience while pursuing it. And then, finding the balance in life that will keep you grounded yet highly fulfilled. Eat, Sleep and Paint.

Where do you want to travel?

I want to go to a lot of places man. Japan, Morocco, I want to go to the Alps and see the monks there as well. I also want to see the Versailles in Paris.

What makes an experience memorable to you?

I don’t know really. Emotions make me remember experiences. The more I feel during that memory , I guess the more i will remember it.

What’s the most memorable experience you ever had?

My most memorable experiences come in the dozens but I won’t say. They’re personal.

What do you want to achieve?

I want to achieve sustainability. Being able to survive and enjoy my life the way I want to in my terms - through what I like doing. I also want to exhibit my works, and paint in different countries.

Video Of The Week: Sinulog ‘Baseline’ Street Party 2013

For my choice of Video Of The Week for the first week of February, let me showcase one of my works outside of Chief. It is probably not surprising that I have this huge passion for making videos and films in general. And since I really can’t be as flexible and as widespread for the brand, I do side projects of my own. This one right here is part of my so-called bucket list, to be able to create a short video of a huge celebration/party/festival. The chance to cross out that one came when I went to Cebu for Sinulog two weeks ago. I went there with my camera wrapped in plastic and ready to shoot everything around me.

This is by the way just a personal project, no one asked me to do it or sponsored me in making the short video. So I really didn’t get enough room to work on, I could’ve went on stage and captured more angles, but I guess being with the crowd gave the video an authentic feel to it. In a way the video represented the point of view of the crowd, the feeling of being there, smothered by groups of people, paint and beer. Surprisingly, it was the perfect place to be, to fully express to you the experience.

I understand though that not all may be interested in partying and going wild, but I personally think everyone should respect different interests, cultures and subcultures. Or on the other hand, some might not have really experienced this kind of event yet. This is what Chief stands for, providing different interests, cultures, lifestyles and subcultures to everyone. You don’t need to be interested in everything, but at least know about it and respect those other ones you are not into. Life is about experiences and moments. They make living worth it.

Chief Motion Series: Julz Savard

A radio DJ, rock band vocalist, host, a writer, model, and a lot more, Julz Savard is definitely making the most out of life. Yes, it’s quite a lot of work to fit in the 24 hours a day limit, but that doesn’t stop her from pursuing what she wants. For a 21-year-old lady, she is very mature and cultured, it is seldom that you see someone so gifted and blessed to be very humble, driven and focused despite being handed and given so much readily. But beyond the serious character, she is high-spirited, witty and easygoing. She is a unique individual, never afraid to be different and to pursue things that are slightly or completely out of the norm. This is what makes her exceptionally interesting, being that young woman who is good and bad enough at the same time.

Juliann Savard, but majority know me as “Julz”

What do you do?

Radio DJ by day, fashion student/model, vocalist for Save Me Hollywood by night

What are the top three things you want to do now?

First, build my clothing line for girls, called “good girl” coz I’m ironic like that. Then, everyone thinks that coz I’m a DJ I actually can spin - I can’t, so I wanna learn that. Lastly, to get out of town.

Where do you want to travel?

I wanna travel to Puerto, go to Singapore, check out Bacolod for Masskara festival and Boracay - shocking enough, I’ve never been to Boracay yet.

What makes an experience memorable to you?

An experience is only memorable if it left a mark on you, whether good or bad. To the point that it will always affect you. Maybe even change you, but definitely something that makes you see things differently. I have lots of marks, they’re called tattoos. Each one represents an experience memorable to me. However, my tattoos don’t necessarily show the meaning behind those experiences (although they could) but they represent a certain period. For instance, my 18th and 21st birthdays, crucial years. And also for the times I’ve overcome something or achieved something.

What’s the most memorable experience you ever had?

The most memorable experiences I have are the ones I worked my ass off to get. From being really young and getting a title like “Ms. Teen Philippines”, bet you didn’t see that one coming. To being a jock to a MYX VJ, and now Meg’s Style Ambassador. The journeys that include lots of hardships are memorable, they make me, me. And as follows, those are the things I’m remembered for.

What do you want to achieve?

Life. I think if you can achieve life, you are ready for anything. Things are never gonna go your way all the time, you will never get everything you want - but none of us are meant to. And to accept that, you’ve already achieved something. But if you mean physically achieve something, all I’m doing now - branching out, getting bigger. To extend even outside of the Philippines, that would be rad. But behind the image of a go-getter, I really just take life with what gives me while I’m still grabbing.

Words you live by?

If you’re given lemons, make orange juice. (don’t do the usual, think outside the box, it’s a fun way to get back at the crap life throws at you. haha!)

Lastly, do you have something you regret not doing?

It’s so petty but since I’m in broadcasting, I really regret not trying out to be a courtside reporter. I love sports and I think I have a knack for hosting. When I look back on it now, I think I’d be able to do the job, but things happen for a reason. At that point, when it was still a possible opportunity (me being in college) I just knew it wasn’t. But I’m making up for it now.

I’d love to venture into theatre or film one day, whether doing the acting or the directing. But I have too much on my plate right now. That though, I will not regret, I promise myself. It’s going to happen. All this will happen, in its own time.
